For the first senryu, I used the katakana word シェフ(chef) because it is an easier term for beginner Japanese students to understand than 調理師（ちょうりし）. Also, it is shorter and a better fit for a five morae line. Furthermore, it gives an emphasis on the idea that I am not a chef.
In the second senryu, シングルベッド is used because it not only represents the idea of loneliness, it also provides an image of an object that appeals to the sight, such that it hopefully pairs with the feeling of touch in つめたい.
In the third senryu, バレンタイン and チョコ are used. I use バレンタイン (Valentine) because I like the idea that this word can be both a date and a substitute for a lover in English. チョコ is just the shortened form for チョコレート. I use チョコ because it is a better fit in a limited morae line. Also, from what I know, chocolate is the gift that people give to each other on Valentine's Day in Japan.
